Trial Chambers Minecraft: How to Find, Beat and Loot Them
Trial chambers Minecraft guide for Java 26.3: find them, beat the Breeze and spawners, and open vaults for the heavy core and mace.
Trial chambers in Minecraft are underground copper-and-tuff dungeons, and the fastest way to find one is a buried trial chambers map from a journeyman cartographer villager (12 emeralds and a compass).
Clear the trial spawners inside to earn trial keys, then spend those keys on vaults for loot. With cheats on, run /locate structure minecraft:trial_chambers instead.
Trial chambers are a mid-game combat structure added in Java Edition 1.21, Tricky Trials, on June 13, 2024. They are the only source of breeze rods and heavy cores, so they are the only route to the mace.
This guide applies to Java Edition 26.3 (Wilderness Bound, released September 15, 2026) and the matching Bedrock Edition build. Details were checked on October 7, 2026, against the Minecraft Wiki and Mojang’s release notes.
What are trial chambers in Minecraft?
A trial chamber is a large complex of corridors, intersections and combat rooms built mostly from copper and tuff bricks, according to the Minecraft Wiki. It generates underground in the Overworld, in every biome except the deep dark.
Four things make one worth the trip:
• Trial spawners that summon waves of mobs, then pay out trial keys.
• Vaults, loot blocks that each player can open once.
• Breezes, which spawn nowhere else and drop breeze rods for wind charges.
• Heavy cores, which only come from ominous vaults and are half of a mace.
Chambers also hold large amounts of copper blocks and copper bulbs, so you can stock up without a Nether trip.

How do you find trial chambers in Minecraft?
Buy a buried trial chambers map from a journeyman cartographer, or use /locate if cheats are on. Both only find chambers in chunks generated since 1.21.
Why can’t you find trial chambers in an old world?
Chambers only generate in chunks created after the 1.21 update (Java 1.21, Bedrock 1.21.0), according to the Minecraft Wiki.
If your world is older, the land around your base will never have one. Travel to terrain you have not loaded yet, or start a new world.
Method 1: Buy a buried trial chambers map
1. Find a village with a cartographer (the villager who works at a cartography table).
2. Trade with them until they reach journeyman level.
3. Buy the buried trial chambers map for 12 emeralds and a compass.
4. Follow the map to the marked spot and dig down. The starting room sits between Y -40 and -20.
A cartographer’s maps always lead to the same chamber, so a second chamber needs a different cartographer, according to the Minecraft Wiki.
Method 2: Use the /locate command
With cheats on, type /locate structure minecraft:trial_chambers. The name is plural, and the singular version fails, according to GameServerKings (September 2026).
Java needs permission level 2 and Bedrock needs cheats enabled. The result gives X and Z but no height, so plan to dig down.
Method 3 (new in 26.3): Check abandoned camp secret chests
Wilderness Bound added abandoned camps, small structures that generate in 18 biomes, including forests, taigas, cherry groves, swamps and savannas.
The Minecraft Wiki says their secret chests can hold explorer maps for other structures, including buried trial chambers maps.
The sources we checked give no drop chance, so treat this as a bonus when you stumble on a camp, not a plan.
Method 4: Dig at the right depth
Chambers are buried, so an exposed cave with oddly boxy walls can hint that one is nearby. Mining around Y -40 to -20 works, but it is slow next to a map.
What should you bring to a trial chamber?
Nothing here is required, but this is what we would pack. Mobs only come from spawners, so a chamber stays quiet until you wake one up.

How do trial spawners work?
A trial spawner starts a wave when a Survival or Adventure mode player gets within 14 blocks with a clear line of sight.
Kill every mob and it ejects rewards, with a 50% chance of a trial key, then rests for 30 minutes.

Which mobs spawn in trial chambers?
Chamber spawners can summon zombies, baby zombies, husks, skeletons, strays, bogged, spiders, cave spiders, slimes, silverfish and the Breeze, according to the Minecraft Wiki.
Don’t drag mobs into unloaded chunks. The spawner can’t see them, so it keeps spawning replacements. Watch corridors for tripwires and dispenser traps too.
How do you beat the Breeze in Minecraft?
Fight the Breeze in melee, hold a shield against its wind charges, and skip the bow. It bounces arrows and tridents back at you.
It has 30 health (15 hearts) and drops one to two breeze rods, according to Sportskeeda’s breeze guide. Its wind charges do little damage, but the knockback can send you off a ledge.
1. Pick a spot with no big drops behind you. Knockback does the real damage.
2. Raise your shield as it winds up a wind charge.
3. Rush in when it lands from a jump and swing.
4. Hit an incoming wind charge at the right moment to send it back. Mojang’s Bedrock Preview 1.20.70.24 notes say a Breeze takes damage from wind charges.
5. Collect the breeze rods.
Breeze rods craft into wind charges, and one rod plus one heavy core makes a mace.
What loot do trial chambers have?
Trial spawners give trial keys, and each key opens one vault. Ominous trial keys open ominous vaults, which are the only source of the heavy core.

Vault rules
• A key is used up when you open a vault.
• Each player can open a given vault once.
• The key type has to match the vault type.
• A vault remembers up to 128 players, according to GameServerKings (September 2026).
What do regular vaults drop?
Regular vaults pay out items such as emeralds, arrows and iron ingots. Rarer finds include the Bolt Armor Trim Smithing Template, the Guster Banner Pattern and the Precipice music disc, which Mojang’s bug tracker lists as vault-only items.
What do ominous vaults drop?
These are the odds for a single ominous vault, from the Minecraft Wiki’s Java Edition loot table (checked October 7, 2026). The wiki lists the same pools for Bedrock.

How do ominous trials work?
Drink an ominous bottle to get Bad Omen, then walk into view of a trial spawner. The spawner swaps Bad Omen for Trial Omen and turns nearby spawners ominous.
Trial Omen lasts 15 minutes for each level of Bad Omen, according to the Minecraft Wiki.
1. Get an ominous bottle. Raid captains drop them, according to GameServerKings (September 2026), and ominous vaults can contain one.
2. Drink it to gain Bad Omen.
3. Walk into a spawner’s range with line of sight. It turns ominous and its current mobs despawn.
4. Beat the wave. Ominous mobs wear Protection IV armor and carry iron or diamond swords or enchanted bows, and the spawner drops a projectile near you every 8 seconds, so keep moving.
5. Collect the ominous trial key, then find an ominous vault. They already sit inside regular chambers.
How do you get a mace from trial chambers?
Craft one heavy core with one breeze rod. The heavy core comes only from ominous vaults, and the breeze rod comes from the Breeze.
Ominous vaults also roll a Wind Burst book (5.5%) and a Breach or Density book (5.5%), which are mace enchantments.
Is it better to do trial chambers with friends?
Yes. More players in range means more mobs and more rewards from each spawner, according to the Minecraft Wiki.
Every player also gets their own roll on each vault, and a vault remembers up to 128 players.
