Minecraft Flowers: Every Type, Where to Find Them and What They Do

All Minecraft flowers in Java 26.3: where to find each one, dye colors, suspicious stew effects, bee uses and how to grow them.

Minecraft Flowers: Every Type, Where to Find Them and What They Do

Minecraft flowers are decorative plants that grow on grass and dirt. You can turn them into dye, suspicious stew, and food for bees and some animals.

As of Java Edition 26.3 (released 15 September 2026), the Minecraft Wiki counts 22 flowers: 17 small ones and 5 tall ones.

Most grow in plains, forests, Flower Forests and meadows, and bone meal on a grass block is the fastest way to get more. Four never generate at all: the Wither Rose, Torchflower, Pitcher Plant and Golden Dandelion.

This guide covers Java Edition 26.3 (Wilderness Bound) and Bedrock Edition 26.50 on PC, console and mobile.

Version details come from Mojang’s official Java Edition 26.3 patch notes. The 15 September 2026 release date comes from MinecraftHub’s version tracker (2 October 2026).

Flower mechanics come from the community-run Minecraft Wiki, checked on 7 October 2026. Other sources are named where they are used.

How many flowers are in Minecraft?

There are 22 flowers in Java Edition 26.3: 17 small flowers and 5 tall flowers, according to the Minecraft Wiki’s flower page (checked 7 October 2026).

The wiki counts each tulip color and both Eyeblossom states separately. Small flowers are one block tall and fit in flower pots. Tall flowers are two blocks high and don’t.

Older guides say 14. That count predates Eyeblossoms, the Golden Dandelion, and the two Sniffer plants (Torchflower and Pitcher Plant).

The wiki also tags nine flower-like blocks, such as Cherry Leaves and Cactus Flower, that count as flowers for bee features. They get their own section below.

All Minecraft flowers and where to find them

Most flowers grow in plains, forests, Flower Forests and meadows. Blue Orchids only grow in swamps, and Eyeblossoms only grow in the Pale Garden. This table shows Java Edition 26.3 generation.

Dandelions and poppies are twice as common in jungles and savannas as elsewhere, so those biomes are good places to stock up (Minecraft Wiki).

Sunflower heads always face east, which gives you a rough compass when you’re lost (4Netplayers flower guide, July 2026).

Which Minecraft flowers never generate, and how do you get them?

Four flowers never generate in the world: the Torchflower, Pitcher Plant, Wither Rose and Golden Dandelion. Each one has its own method.

•       For the Torchflower, let a Sniffer dig up Torchflower Seeds, plant them on farmland, and wait through three growth stages. Despite the name, it gives off no light (Servers4Gamers flower guide, updated July 2026).

•       For the Pitcher Plant, a Sniffer digs up Pitcher Pods instead. Plant those on farmland. Bone meal can’t duplicate a Pitcher Plant, unlike the other tall flowers.

•       The Wither Rose appears where a mob dies to the Wither boss. Touching one gives you the Wither effect (Servers4Gamers), so don’t walk on them. You can plant one on netherrack or soul sand.

•       The Golden Dandelion is a crafted item. The steps are in the next section.

How do you make a Golden Dandelion?

Put a Dandelion in the middle of a crafting grid and surround it with eight Gold Nuggets.

The Golden Dandelion arrived in Java Edition 26.1 (Tiny Takeover, March 2026) and Bedrock 26.10. Mojang’s official Java Edition 26.1 patch notes describe it as a flower that stops baby mobs from aging.

1.     Get eight Gold Nuggets. One Gold Ingot crafts into nine.

2.     Pick a Dandelion from any grassy biome other than a swamp.

3.     Open a crafting table. Put the Dandelion in the center slot and a Gold Nugget in each of the other eight.

4.     Hold the Golden Dandelion and interact with a baby mob. Green particles show that its aging has stopped.

5.     To let the mob grow up later, use a second Golden Dandelion on it.

According to the Minecraft Wiki, it doesn’t work on hostile baby mobs or baby villagers. It also crafts into yellow dye and a Saturation suspicious stew.

Which flower makes which dye?

Pink and yellow have the most flower options (four each). Lilac, Peony and Rose Bush give two dye per flower.

Based on the Minecraft Wiki’s flower crafting list, no flower makes brown, green or purple dye.

What does each flower do in suspicious stew?

Each small flower gives suspicious stew one status effect. Poppy and Torchflower give Night Vision, Oxeye Daisy gives Regeneration, and Wither Rose gives Wither.

Craft the stew from the mushroom stew ingredients plus one small flower. Effects below come from the Minecraft Wiki’s suspicious stew effects page (checked 7 October 2026).

Tall flowers don’t work in stew. Effect durations differ between Java and Bedrock, and published numbers disagree, so test a stew somewhere safe before you rely on it in a fight.

How do you grow more flowers in Minecraft?

Use bone meal on a grass block. Flowers appear on nearby grass blocks, and the biome decides which flowers can show up.

1.     Travel to the biome that grows the flower you want. A Flower Forest gives the widest mix.

2.     Stand next to grass blocks. Bone meal on plain dirt won’t grow flowers.

3.     Use bone meal on a grass block. Flowers and short grass appear on the grass around it.

4.     Break the flowers by hand or with any item. They drop instantly.

5.     Bone meal the same patch again for another batch.

Bone meal on grass can’t produce Wither Roses, Torchflowers or any tall flower (Minecraft Wiki).

Can be regrown with bone meal

Bone meal on a tall flower itself drops a copy of it. That is the only renewable way to get tall flowers, and it works on all of them except the Pitcher Plant.

In Java, flower gradients shift with height, so the same X and Z spot can grow a different flower at a different Y level (Minecraft Wiki).

Plains only grow tulips in rare patches. For tulips, bone meal a Flower Forest instead.

Where else can you get flowers?

Wandering Traders sell most small flowers for one emerald each. A few other mobs and structures supply flowers too.

•       Wandering Traders may sell one of most small flowers for a single emerald. They don’t sell Wither Roses, Torchflowers, Closed Eyeblossoms or tall flowers.

•       Iron Golems drop 0 to 2 poppies when they die.

•       Endermen pick up small flowers and drop them if you kill them while they hold one.

•       Plains villages have oxeye daisies, cornflowers and azure bluets, and woodland mansions contain potted flowers.

What do flowers do for bees and animals?

Bees collect nectar from most flowers to make honey, and feeding a flower to two adult bees makes them breed.

Dandelions also breed rabbits, and Golden Dandelions pause baby mob aging.

Cactus Flowers work for bees too, but the cactus underneath can prick bees to death unless you place the flower on a different block.

What other blocks count as flowers?

Nine more blocks sit in Java Edition’s flowers block tag, which is why bees treat them like flowers. Only some of them make dye.

Can you put flowers in flower pots?

Small flowers fit in a flower pot. Tall flowers and Cactus Flowers don’t.

Most flowers can be planted on grass blocks, dirt, coarse dirt, rooted dirt, farmland, podzol, mycelium, moss blocks, pale moss blocks, mud and muddy mangrove roots.

Wither Roses can also go on netherrack and soul sand, plus soul soil in Java.

Which Minecraft flower facts do other guides get wrong?

Several popular guides repeat the same mistakes. Here are the ones I found while reading the top pages, checked against the Minecraft Wiki.

What the wiki says

There are 14 flowers.

Java 26.3 has 22: 17 small and 5 tall.

Peony is the only pink dye source.

Pink Tulip, Cactus Flower and Pink Petals also make pink dye.

Orange Tulips give Strength in suspicious stew.

Every tulip gives Weakness.

Lily of the Valley only grows in Flower Forests.

Java also generates it in forests, dark forests and birch forests.

You need shears or a tool to harvest flowers.

Any item or your bare hand breaks a flower instantly.

What changed with Minecraft flowers recently?

Recent releases added flowers in several places. The next one, 26.4, hasn’t announced any flower changes that I could find.

Minecraft flowers FAQ

How many flowers are there in Minecraft?

Java Edition 26.3 has 22 flowers: 17 small and 5 tall, per the Minecraft Wiki (checked 7 October 2026). Nine more flower-like blocks, such as Cactus Flower and Pink Petals, count as flowers for bee features.

Can you grow flowers with bone meal in Minecraft?

Yes. Use bone meal on a grass block and flowers grow on nearby grass, based on the biome. Bone meal on a tall flower drops a copy of it. It can’t produce Wither Roses, Torchflowers or Pitcher Plants.

How do you get a Wither Rose in Minecraft?

Let the Wither boss kill a mob. A Wither Rose appears where the mob died. Touching it gives you the Wither effect, so use it carefully.

What does the Golden Dandelion do?

It stops a baby mob from growing up. Use a second one on the same mob to let it age again. Hostile baby mobs and baby villagers are excluded, per the Minecraft Wiki.

Are Minecraft flowers the same in Java and Bedrock?

The flowers are the same, but bone meal and biome rules differ. Java bone meal covers a bigger area, while Bedrock bone meal can spread a small flower to nearby grass.
